Installed it at home on my vintage 72 LP, as my original pots had major issues and I'm not a skilled luthier, especially with soldering. I paid extra for the 3 way switch, and it also came with a new input jack. I was actually hoping to only replace the pots, but my old style wiring had the grounding wrapped around the hot wires which means I'd have to solder a piece of solid copper wire to each one of the grounds, to be able to insert them into their correct slots. And also by not using their supplied parts, it made it difficult to determine what wire was from where. So after removing everything ( 3 way switch. , pick-ups, and input jack ), it was easy to see it would be far easier to just go ahead and replace it ALL with the supplied new parts. I had questions about it and got quick prompt replies via email from Bob at Calitone. Very helpful. Once I decided to go ahead and replace everything except for the pick-ups themselves, it went together quickly and easily. Before I put any covers and knobs back on, I tested the finished product, and found it sounded great! Happy that it was done I put the rest of the covers and knobs on. Sadly, that's when I found out my knobs were too high. And the only way to lower them is to unplug all the wires, remove the new solid state pots back out, and install nuts and washers on each pot and adjusting them about half way down the threads, install it back in until they bottom out, check the knobs heights, then tighten the top nuts and washers, before the final knob installations. Then reinstall all of the wires back into their correct slots. Was quite a bit of extra hassle on my part, for not thinking about this from the start. It would have been extra helpful to have this mentioned earlier in the install directions I was following. Another reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is, my original parts are gold plated, but they sent silver plated 3 way switch and input jack. I tried to at least reuse my gold plated nut ring on my 3 way switch, but evidently the threads are different and it doesn't fit. So I had to use their supplied silver plated one. This unit has two ground lugs designed for the old style wiring, but unfortunately my wires from my pick-ups did not fit through the holes they were supposed to slip into. So I did have to solder a smaller ground wire to the two wrapped grounds and clamp them into the grounding terminals. But that was the only soldering needed to complete the project. Other than that I'm happy with the quality of tones, and especially love that the tones remain true and clear while rolling the volume down low. I learned a lot by doing it myself, the next time will be even easier! I still have my original parts saved, if there ever comes a time I will want to sell it. So therefore I'm not devaluing the resale value of my 1972 LP Custom Black Beauty Fretless Wonder, by updating my guitar to solid state technology. I'd buy from Calitone again. Thanks. Jim.
